Episode 7

BREANNA comes out of the shower drying her hair. She has a robe around her body.

BREANNA - I'm sorry to make you wait so long. I didn't know I was going somewhere tonight.

BRANDON - Oh that's okay. Take your time.

BREANNA - Don't tell me that because I'll take forever!

(They both laugh.)

BREANNA - What time does the party start?

BRANDON - Uh...

(BRANDON looks at his watch.)

BRANDON - It may be getting started now. The game should be over by now. Let me call my brother and find out.

BREANNA - Okay cool. I'll be right out. Let me just pin my hair up and get dressed. I'll be right back.

(BREANNA drops the towel that she was drying her hair with and her wait hair falls.)

BRANDON thinks - Oh my God that's sexy! Damn!

(BREANNA walks into her bedroom and closes the door.)

BRANDON thinks - Shit! Sexy!

(He pulls out his cell phone and dials.)

BRENDON - Hello!

(BRANDON can hear a lot of noise in the background.)

BRANDON - Wassup, where you at?

BRENDON - Nigga, the question is, where are you? How you gonna not play tonight man! What the fuck? This was the biggest game of the year and we won!

BRANDON - We beat Amgis?

BRENDON - Hell yeah! We kicked their ass! Where the hell are you?

BRANDON - I'm uh... I'm out. I'm about to head over to the Que party.

BRENDON - Yeah, everybody else is goin' there too.

BRANDON - You goin'?

BRENDON - Naw, I can't be rollin' up in that joint. You know how that is.

BRANDON - Yeah. I know.

BRENDON - But what did I tell you about leavin' me hanging to play without you? Once again you didn't show, everybody is looking at me like I did something wrong. I should kick your ass for that man. Where are you?

BRANDON - Look don't worry about all that alright? I'll smooth things over with Prof and I'll be straight. I just had to take a break from drummin' tonight aight?

BRENDON - No its not alright Bran. I think we need to talk man. You been trippin' lately.

BRANDON - Trippin'? What you talkin' about?

BRENDON - You know damn well what I'm talkin' about. What the fuck is up with you and Denise man?

(silence)

BRENDON - Why you break her heart man? That shit aint cool.

BRANDON - Hey look, I can't talk about that right now okay? Plus you don't know all the ins and outs with that so don't get involved okay?

BRENDON - Too late dude, I'm already involved and you fucked up big time with Denise. You know that right? But thats cool cuz the nigga she's with now is taking care of her every desire... big time!

BRANDON - What! What nigga she's with!

BRENDON - Me! I'm the new man in Denise's life and best believe, I'm gonna treat her better than you ever did!

XAVIER runs into CHRISTIAN on the yard while he is on his way to the library to see his girlfriend APRIL.

XAVIER - Hey.

CHRISTIAN - Hay is for horses! Don't hey me!

XAVIER- What's your problem?

CHRISTIAN - What's yours?

(XAVIER is looking confused.)

CHRISTIAN - What's this I hear about you seeing April?

XAVIER - Excuse me?

CHRISTIAN - What's up with this rumor that you're seeing April?

(XAVIER smiles before he replies.)

XAVIER - Where did you hear that Chris?

CHRISTIAN - Don't sweat where I heard it. I heard it.

XAVIER - And you believe everything you hear?

CHRISTIAN - Don't play games with me Xavier. I don't have time okay?

XAVIER - I'm not pla...

CHRISTIAN - Is it true?

(silence)

XAVIER - Yeah Chris, its true. Ya happy now?

CHRISTIAN - Well first of all, I can't believe that...

XAVIER - Gregg! Yo G!

(CHRISTIAN turns around and sees GREGG walking with another student. XAVIER waves them over.)

CHRISTIAN - What you call him over here for? I was talking!

XAVIER - I've been lookin' for him all day, I really need to speak to him.

CHRISTIAN - Yeah, whatever. I bet.

(GREGG walks up.)

GREGG - Wassup.

XAVIER - What up G? I been lookin' for you all day. Where ya been? Is your phone off?

GREGG - Naw, its on.

(GREGG checks his phone.)

GREGG - Yeah, its on. Oh this is Shannon. Shannon, this is Christian and you know Z already.

CHRISTIAN - Nice to meet you.

SHANNON - You too.

XAVIER - Chris, I'll call ya later okay? I gotta run.

CHRISTIAN - Yeah okay.

(CHRISTIAN reaches up to give XAVIER a hug so he obliges. She whispers in his ear.)

CHRISTIAN whispers- You're not slick and this isn't over.

(XAVIER laughs it off.)

XAVIER - Girl, you crazy. I'll call ya later.

(He turns and joins GREGG and SHANNON as they walk in a different direction. CHRISTIAN walks away.)

XAVIER - G unit! Thanks man! You saved a brotha!

(GREGG laughs.)

GREGG - What?

XAVIER - She was breathing down my neck man. You know how it is. I was just like stop trippin' ya know.

(GREGG is smiling but looking at XAVIER a little confused.)

GREGG - Uh... yeah, I know.

(silence)

XAVIER - I mean, damn.

(silence)

While waiting for BREANNA to get dressed for the Omega party at Amgis College, BRANDON calls his twin brother BRENDON. They are discussing BRANDON's relationship with DENISE.

BRENDON - What the fuck is up with you and Denise man?

(silence)

BRENDON - Why you break her heart man? That shit aint cool.

BRANDON - Hey man look, I can't talk about that right now okay? Plus you don't know all the ins and outs with that so don't get involved okay?

BRENDON - Too late dude, I'm already involved and you fucked up big time with Denise. You know that right? But thats cool cuz the nigga she's with now is taking care of her every desire... big time!

BRANDON - What! What nigga she's with!

BRENDON - Me! I'm the new man in Denise's life and best believe, I'm gonna treat her better than you ever did!

BRANDON - What! Don't bullshit me Brendon!

(BRENDON laughs loud.)

BRENDON - Nigga I'm just jokin'! Ha ha ha ha ha! I had you though didn't I?

BRANDON - I hate you man! Why don't you grow up!

BRENDON - Oh lighten up. But on the real, you did break her heart and you know that aint right.

BRANDON - Like I said, I can't talk about...

(BREANNA yells out from her bedroom.)

BREANNA - I'm almost ready!

BRANDON - Okay!

BRENDON - Hey, where are you? Who was that?

BRANDON - I'll tell ya later. I'm out.

BRENDON - No wait! Who you with?

(click)

(BRANDON puts his cell phone away.)

BRANDON thinks - If Denise was with somebody else, I mean whatever now. We're better at just being friends. She needs to hook up with someone who is more compatible. And I honestly wouldn't have a problem with that.

(BREANNA walks out from the bedroom. She is putting on her coat as she is walking out.)

BREANNA - Ready?

BRANDON - Yeah. Hey you look great. I like what you did with your hair.

BREANNA - Yeah right, this took like ten seconds. I know I look a hot mess!

BRANDON - No you don't, you look fine. And I do mean that. Fine!

BREANNA - Thank you.

(BREANNA smiles.)

BREANNA - Thanks for inviting me out tonight. I was gonna curl up in front of the tv and do nothing but be bored.

BRANDON - Your sorors aren't going?

BREANNA - Yeah but they went to the game. So they're gonna go from there. It didn't make sense for them to come back here to get me just to go back over there for the party.

BRANDON - Oh yeah, that's true.

(BREANNA opens the door for them to leave. They walk out into the hall and she locks her door. They then proceed to the elevator.)

BREANNA - I was actually kinda surprised that you wanted to go to the Que party. I guess you don't get into hatin' on other frats or anything huh?

BRANDON - Oh no, not at all. We're all Black men first. I aint trippin'. If the Omegas or Kappas or something are doing an event, I'll support. And if we do one or our sorors do one, I hope they'll come out too. Its about unity, not hate.

BREANNA - Well said.

BRANDON - I can't get with cats that hate like that. I think its stupid and childish.

BREANNA - Me too.

(They get on the elevator to go downstairs.)

BRANDON - As a matter of fact, my next move is an organization that has several members of pan hel fraternities in it. You got some Sigmas, some Omegas, some Alphas, whatever.

BREANNA - What organization?

BRANDON - Kappa Kappa Psi.

BREANNA - Oh you're trying out for KKPsi?

BRANDON - Yeah, me and Bren have been talkin' about it for a while now and I think the time is right ya know? My drummin' skills are tighter now than last year so that's cool. And the fact that both me and Brendon play in the drum section is cool. Everyone is starting to know us because we're twins. Even at other schools, they know who we are when we play. So this would be a great move for both of us.

BREANNA - Oh that is so cool.

BRANDON - Yeah.

(The elevator door opens into the lobby. As they get off, several students get on. As they walk through the students getting on, BRANDON sees his band director talking to another band member by the front desk.)

BRANDON - Oh shit, there's Prof!

(BRANDON ducks his head and looks away.)

BREANNA - Who?

BRANDON - My band director! He's probably mad because I missed the game and I missed that practice a couple of days ago! I've been avoiding him since that practice!

BREANNA - Oh. Hey, why did you miss the game tonight anyway? I thought you would be over there playing.

BRANDON - I wanted to come see you.

BREANNA - Brandon.

(BREANNA smiles but looks sternly at BRANDON.)

BREANNA - That's sweet but...

PROFESSOR - Brandon.

BRANDON thinks - Shit!

(He stands up straight and turns around. He was almost out the front door. He smiles.)

BRANDON - Hey Prof! How you doin'?

PROFESSOR - Can I have a word with you?

BRANDON - Uh yeah... well I was just on my way out to stud...

PROFESSOR - Now Brandon.

BRANDON thinks - Shit!

BRANDON - Uh, I'll be right back okay?

BREANNA - Sure.

(BREANNA walks to the side and sits down. BRANDON walks up to PROFESSOR as the other band member walks away.)

BRANDON - Hey Prof, how you doin' sir?

PROFESSOR - Brandon what happened tonight?

BRANDON - Oh man, I really got caught up in some studying sir. There was no way I could make the game.

PROFESSOR - And practice on Tuesday?

BRANDON - Uh yeah, right. Um same thing.

PROFESSOR - What is our policy Brandon? You didn't call me. You didn't even let your brother know.

BRANDON - Brendon told you that... he knew! I did tell him Prof.

(silence)

BRANDON - But Prof, it aint a problem. I'm gonna ace the exam that I've been studying for and then I'm back on track witcha. No more absentees.

PROFESSOR - I know. You won't be absent... or late... or present for that matter. You're out of the band.

MONA is sitting with her sister MIYA in the cafeteria having lunch.

MIYA - What are you doin' this weekend?

MONA - I think hangin' out with Mike. What are you doing?

MIYA - I don't know. I think there's a basketball game at my school this weekend so I might go to that.

MONA - You still hanging out at high school games?

(MONA laughs. MIYA laughs too.)

MIYA - Well I am still in high school!

MONA - I forget, you're up here so much.

MIYA - Yeah. Hey didn't your founding day just pass or something?

MONA - Huh?

MIYA - January fifteenth. Isn't that your founder's day?

MONA - Um...

MIYA - Yeah, it was because I know that Sharonda's is the day after for Zeta. I remember learning their date at the meeting thing I went to.

MONA - Oh yeah. I knew that.

(MIYA laughs.)

MIYA - No you didn't Mona with your shady self!

(They both laugh.)

MONA - You aint gotta remember it every year ya know?

MIYA - Oh yeah?

MONA - I mean after you first go over its a big deal. But after that, its like whatever. Sorors don't be remembering that shit.

MIYA - Oh. But I thought mom went to some kind of function in Ohio or something. For founding day or something.

MONA - She did? To what?

MIYA - I don't know. I could be wrong.

MONA - Yeah, I didn't hear about any kind of event so I don't know.

MIYA - Oh. Okay. Whatever.

MONA - And I told you about bringing up that Zeta nonsense to me anyway.

MIYA - Shut up.

MONA - You're lucky I don't kick your little ass for going to their interest meeting.

MIYA - But I don't wanna be an AKA.

MONA - So?

MIYA - You're hopeless.

(MONA laughs.)

MONA - Yeah but at least I wear letters and you don't.

MIYA - Whatever.

MONA - What you wanna be blue for anyway?

MIYA - Mona please. Let's not get into it again. Just drop it alright?

(silence)

MIYA - Just drop it okay?

(MONA is looking past MIYA at something behind her. MIYA notices and turns around.)

MIYA - What? What are you looking at?

(MONA doesn't look back at MIYA but starts to slide out of the booth she is sitting in.)

MONA - I'll be right back okay?

MIYA - Wait, where are you going? Who did you see?

MONA - I'll tell ya later, I'll be right back.

(GREGG looks at SHANNON, then back at XAVIER.)

GREGG - What did you just say?

XAVIER - Huh?

GREGG - What did you just say man?

(GREGG stops walking which forces XAVIER and SHANNON to stop as well.)

XAVIER - Oh, I had said, uh, that Christian was like all up on me. So then she says...

GREGG - Nigga I aint talkin' bout that! Did you just say damn?

XAVIER - What? No. I didn't say that.

GREGG - Yes you did, I just heard you curse.

XAVIER - No I didn't.

SHANNON - I heard it too.

XAVIER - Well I didn't mean it. I didn't even realize I said it.

GREGG - Its all good bruh.

(They walk toward the library.)

XAVIER - I'm gonna holla at yall later. I gotta see April.

GREGG - Aight frat. I'll call ya later.

XAVIER - Peace.

(XAVIER walks into the library and looks around.)

XAVIER thinks - Where did she say she was?

(He starts to walk toward the left where the study rooms are.)

XAVIER thinks - Oh there's April and Willie.

(He walks toward their table. Both APRIL and WILLIE are reading as he approaches. As he nears the table, APRIL looks up.)

XAVIER whispers - Hey.

(APRIL smiles a big smile.)

APRIL - Hi boobee!

XAVIER - Hey Willie, what's up?

WILLIE whispers - Hey Z.

APRIL - Come here sweetie. I'll be right back Willie.

WILLIE whispers - Okay.

(APRIL gets up and takes XAVIER by the hand. She leads him away from the table.)

APRIL - I'm so glad you came through to see me.

XAVIER - I'm glad I came to see you too.

(APRIL is still smiling as she takes XAVIER into the connecting hallway between the undergraduate library and the medical school library. Once in the hallway, she turns around and throws her arms around his neck.)

XAVIER - Whoa whoa baby, slow your roll alright? We're in the library.

APRIL - Nobody comes through this hallway boobee. You didn't even know it was here did you?

XAVIER - You got me there.

(APRIL smiles as she leans up to kiss XAVIER. He moves his face away.)

APRIL - What's the matter?

XAVIER - I'm sayin', we're in public.

APRIL - Okay just give me one kiss and I'll leave you alone about it.

(silence)

XAVIER - You promise?

APRIL - Promise!

(silence)

XAVIER - Okay.

(APRIL leans up again and they begin to kiss. She squeezes her arms tighter around XAVIER's neck. He pushes his tongue into her mouth and closes his eyes. As he does, his hands slide down her back and with both hands he starts to squeeze and massage her butt.)

(MONA starts to slide out of the booth she is sitting in.)

MONA - I'll be right back okay?

MIYA - Wait, where are you going? Who did you see?

MONA - I'll tell ya later, I'll be right back.

(MONA gets up and starts to quickly walk, never taking her eyes off who she was staring at.)

MONA thinks - Oh gosh I can't believe she is actually...

(MONA keeps a good distance back from who she is following but keeps her eyes peeled nonetheless.)

MONA thinks - This is just what I wanted to do! And now its about to happen! Wow!

(As she is walking, a student approaches her.)

DAWN - Excuse me.

(MONA stops and looks at the girl.)

DAWN - Aint you a AKA? I want to be an AKA so what I gotta do?

(MONA looks back at who she was following, then back to the student.)

MONA - First of all, learn some damn respect! You don't just walk up in the middle of Callis talkin' bout you want to be in somebody's organization! What the hell is wrong with you? Learn some discretion! Dis...cre...tion! Say my sorority name full out! Alpha Kappa Alpha Sororoty incorporated dammit! And don't be blabbin' your business all in the street!

(DAWN looks down as if her feelings are hurt.)

MONA - God! The nerve!

(MONA quickly starts to walk away.)

DAWN - But... but... I'm sorry!

(MONA doesn't turn back. She keeps following.)

MONA thinks - Damn interests! Make me sick!

(MONA's target has gone into the bookstore.)

MONA thinks - Oooooh! I betcha they're gonna buy the history book or something! That's great because now I don't have to get it as a gift for her! Hee hee hee!

(She enters the bookstore but ducks into the first aisle.)

MONA thinks - I knew that heffa wanted to be down! Damn liar! Ha ha ha ha!

(She peeks over the aisle and sees KATRICE and DONNA talking. She bends back down.)

MONA thinks - I knew Donna wanted to be an AKA! This is gonna be the shit! Donna my soror! Hell yeah! Its about to be on!

(She peeks up again and she doesn't see them.)

MONA thinks - Oh shit, where did they go?

(She looks around and see that they are at the cash register. They just bought a pack of gum and some candy.)

MONA thinks - Oh, she's not here to get a history book. Maybe I can still get it for her.

(KATRICE and DONNA walk out and MONA waits a second before she follows.)

MONA thinks - I hope Katrice is imparting some knowledge! I mean damn, school the girl right!

(MONA walks out and sees the two at the top of the stairs.)

MONA thinks - Where they goin'?

(She starts to head upstairs as well.)

MONA thinks - Man, this is gonna be the bomb! I know once Donna gets in, we gonna take over this campus! I can't wait til sorors find out that she's secretly meeting with Katrice! I'm glad Katrice had sense enough to move out of the cafeteria though. That had AKA meeting written all over it. I even picked that up!

(She sees them walk toward the back of the building.)

MONA thinks - Where the hell are they going?

(MONA follows behind as she watches KATRICE and DONNA go out the back glass doors to the patio area in the back of the building. This area has been closed off because of some construction work that has been going on in the Callis Student Union.)

MONA thinks - Why in the world are they going over... oh I know! Katrice is about to haze her or something! Good! Good! She probably needs it!

(MONA walks slowly behind and approaches the glass doors.)

MONA thinks - Man this is so cool! Ha ha ha ha! Wait til I tell Donna's ass that I saw her in her meeting with my line sister! Ha ha ha ha...

(MONA peeks through the glass doors.)

MONA thinks - ...ha ha ha ha ha ha... ha ha ha ha... ha ha ha... ha...

(silence)

MONA thinks - Oh... my... God!
